Kano Pillars continued their impressive unbeaten run in the Nigeria Premier Football League after playing out a 1-1 draw with Sporting Lagos at the Sani Abacha Stadium on Saturday in a Matchday 7 clash.
Sporting Lagos caught the Pillars faithful off guard when Valentine Ugwu nodded them ahead deep in first-half stoppage time, silencing the home crowd momentarily.
But Daniel Ogunmodede's men showed real character after the restart, with Abdullahi Musa pulling Kano Pillars level just three minutes into the second half to send the home fans into celebration. Musa has now been directly involved in goals in recent weeks, having also scored in the Pillars' 4-1 demolition of Doma United FC earlier in the campaign.
Both teams pushed hard for a winner in an end-to-end second half, creating clear-cut chances, but neither goalkeeper was beaten again before the final whistle.
The point means Kano Pillars remain unbeaten through seven matchdays, a run that includes wins over Niger Tornadoes and Doma United FC alongside draws against Kwara United, Inter Lagos FC and Enyimba. The result also moves the Sai Masu Gida up to fifth position on the NPFL table, while Sporting Lagos climbed to eighth despite stretching their winless run to three games.
Attention now turns to the trip to Ibadan, where Kano Pillars will take on Shooting Stars in their next league outing, hoping to turn more draws into wins and push further up the standings. Sporting Lagos, meanwhile, will host Bendel Insurance as they look to end their own winless streak.
Reflecting on the growing resilience of the squad under coach Daniel Ogunmodede, the mood around the Sani Abacha Stadium remains positive, with fans pointing to the team's ability to fight back from behind as a sign of character this season.
