Kano Pillars fans had reason to celebrate at the Sani Abacha Stadium as the Sai Masu Gida ended Doma United's winning streak with a commanding 4-1 victory on Sunday.
Abdullahi Musa opened the scoring for the home side before Rabiu Ali doubled the advantage, sending Kano Pillars into the break with a two-goal cushion. Doma United pulled one back through Sadiq Rilwan in the 53rd minute, but any hopes of a comeback were quickly extinguished as Ahmed Musa and Nasiru Salihu found the net to complete a convincing scoreline in favour of the hosts.
The result halts Doma United's momentum and gives Kano Pillars a timely boost after a mixed start to their campaign, which included a 2-2 draw away to Kwara United on matchday one and a 3-2 home win over Niger Tornadoes on matchday two, with Fabian Nworie Maduabuchi scoring twice in that fixture.
Attention now turns to the club's away trip to face Inter Lagos FC on matchday five, scheduled for 23 September 2026. Inter Lagos will head into that match full of confidence following their own remarkable result, a 1-0 upset over Enyimba in Aba, courtesy of Ezekiel Moses' 18th-minute strike, which was the newly promoted side's first-ever NPFL win.
Elsewhere in the league, Abia Warriors picked up their maiden win of the season with a 2-0 away triumph over Sporting Lagos at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, thanks to goals from Ikoi Etta and Emeka Obioma. Defending champions Rangers kept their fine form going with a 4-2 win over Kun Khalifat FC in the Oriental derby, with Preye Seikorowei, Ayuba Umar, Temitope Folarin and Waheed Adebayo all on target, while Chimobi Igwilo scored twice for the losing side.
Plateau United came from behind to defeat Shooting Stars 3-1 in Jos, overturning an early goal from Taheer Abubakar with strikes from Jibrin Ibrahim, Seiyefa Jackson and Gideon Monday. Warri Wolves edged past Kwara United 1-0 in Ozoro through Ejike Ezekiel, while Nasarawa United and Rivers United shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at the Lafia City Stadium, Harrison Ebah's 66th-minute goal for Rivers United cancelled out by an own goal from Musa Yakubu.
For Kano Pillars supporters, the emphatic home win over Doma United is a welcome statement of intent as the team heads into a challenging away fixture against an in-form Inter Lagos side.
