Kano Pillars have received a N15 million fine from the Nigeria Premier Football League following a misconduct charge arising from their Matchday 35 home fixture against Rivers United on April 19.
The NPFL cited three separate violations against the club. First, Pillars failed to provide adequate and effective security during the match. Second, supporters broke onto the pitch. Third, fans directed gross misconduct at match officials — behaviour the league described as undermining its integrity.
Beyond the financial penalty, the sanctions carry a significant sporting consequence. Pillars must play their next three home matches behind closed doors. Only one of those games falls within the current season, with the remaining two to be served at the beginning of next campaign.
The club has 48 hours from the date of the official notice to lodge an appeal against the sanctions.
The Matchday 35 game itself ended 2-1 in Pillars' favour, with Abdullahi Musa and Ahmed Musa scoring late to complete a comeback win. It was a result that mattered in the table — making the events that followed it all the more damaging for the club.
Pillars fans will need to take note: the atmosphere at Sani Abacha Stadium that day has now cost the club dearly, both in money and in home advantage going forward.
