Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has constituted a new Management Board for Kano Pillars Football Club and set up the Kano State Sports Commission, with the appointments announced on Thursday through a statement by his spokesman, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
Ahmad Musbahu has been named chairman of the Kano Pillars Management Board. Joining him on the board are Abba Galadima, Sharu Inuwa Rabiu, Fatima Ibrahim Abubakar, Bashir Idris, former Kano Pillars Fans Club chairman Abubakar Isa Dandago, and Salisu Muhammad Kosawa. The board also includes Senior Special Assistant on Sports Engr. Usman Mustapha K/Na'isa, Fans Club chairman Jamilu Tijani Yamadawa, Murtala Umar, and Kabiru Usman.
Perhaps the most eye-catching inclusion is former Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa, who takes up the role of Sports Ambassador. The 33-year-old is a Kano son and one of Nigerian football's biggest names, and his presence in this structure could be significant for the club's profile and player recruitment going forward.
On the Sports Commission side, Alhaji Tukur Babangida has been appointed chairman, with Bashir Maizare serving as secretary. Other commission members include an ALGON representative, Alhaji Balarabe Surajo (Wamban Karaye), Ibrahim Abba, Auwal Surajo, a representative of persons with disabilities, Sunusi Ismail, and Sani Musa Danja, who serves as Special Adviser on Youth Affairs.
Governor Yusuf told the new appointees that he expects them to use their knowledge and experience to strengthen sports development across the state, unearth and develop young talents, and most importantly, restore Kano Pillars to the standard the club's supporters expect. He said he is confident the incoming leadership will bring a new level of professionalism and achievement to sports in Kano State.
For Pillars fans, the timing of this announcement matters. The club has had a mixed run of results lately — strong at home but inconsistent on the road — and a focused, experienced board could provide exactly the kind of structural backing the team needs to push for silverware. What supporters will now want to see is how quickly this new leadership translates into improvements both on and off the pitch.
