Kano Pillars have confirmed that eight players have departed the club following the end of their contracts, as the Sai Masu Gida begin reshaping their squad ahead of the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League season.
The players leaving are Bernard Ovoke, Christian Izuchukwu, Sudais Ali Baba, Aliyu Yakubu, Muhammad Galadima, Ugochukwu Gabriel, Zahraddeen Bello, and Williams Ayuba. Ovoke was among those who contributed during the season, scoring in the 4-0 home win over Bendel Insurance FC back in April.
The club issued a statement acknowledging the departing players, thanking them for their dedication, professionalism, and service to the four-time NPFL champions throughout their time at the club.
The exits come after a season to forget for Kano Pillars. The club battled relegation worries throughout the 2025/26 campaign and only secured their top-flight status on the very last day of the season. Their President Federation Cup run also produced nothing of note.
Head coach Mohammed Babaganaru, the man credited with keeping Pillars up, is expected to remain in charge going into the new season. With the squad now being significantly overhauled, the club is in the middle of what is described as a major restructuring process ahead of next campaign.
For supporters, this is a moment of transition. Several familiar faces are gone, and the expectation now is that the club will bring in players capable of ensuring Pillars do not spend another season fighting off the drop.
