Kano Pillars produced a thrilling comeback at the Sani Abacha Stadium on Sunday, beating Rivers United 2-1 to move clear of the relegation zone — and it was none other than Ahmed Musa who delivered the decisive moment.
Abdullahi Musa broke the deadlock in the 81st minute to give Pillars what looked like a hard-earned lead. But Rivers United refused to go quietly, with Handsome Surveyor levelling things up in the 89th minute to make it 1-1 and threaten to deny Pillars the points they needed.
That was when Ahmed Musa stepped up. The former Super Eagles captain netted the winner right on 90 minutes to send the Sani Abacha Stadium into celebration and secure all three points for the home side.
The victory is a significant boost for Pillars, who have had a mixed run of results in recent weeks. The win moves the club away from the relegation places, giving the squad and supporters genuine cause for optimism as the season heads into its closing stages.
Elsewhere across the matchday, Rangers returned to the top of the table with a 2-1 derby win over Enyimba in Enugu. Wonah Williams had given Enyimba the lead four minutes after halftime, but Chidozie Iwundu equalised for the Flying Antelopes in the 61st minute before Ifeanyi Onyebuchi won it for Rangers seven minutes later.
Remo Stars also had a positive afternoon, beating Niger Tornadoes 3-0 in Ikenne to boost their own survival bid. Victor Mbaoma opened the scoring on 10 minutes — his 12th league goal of the season — before Olamilekan Adedayo and Samuel Anakwe added further goals. The result moved Remo Stars up to 16th position.
